UR Gear Upgrade
compiled by Captain Sky Igloo (former Captain Sky Sparrow) of BTC [810] ❤️ and adapted for website by PiPeR of BTC [810], inspired by Cristian of lastwartutorial.com
There are 4 types of Legendary (Gold) weapons that each hero can wield. Each weapon can be upgraded to Mythic (Red) with enhanced bonuses.

Cannon (or railgun) – Damage and Critical Damage

Chip – Damage and damage reduction

Radar – Defense and energy damage reduction

Armor – Hit Points and Physical Damage Reduction

Each weapon is geared either for attack or defense, or a mix of both. Therefore, it is not easy to find your way around, and what to prioritize is that the improvement process is very costly, and you have to choose the right development axis to get the most out of your equipment.
The different gears can be classified into 3 categories
- Defensive gears
- Offensive or attack gears
- Hybrid gears
Team structure
First, you need to consider the team’s structure, between the front line and the back line. This structure applies to all your teams. From there, you’ll sort through the different roles and types of teams.

Example of an Airplane Team
Frontline
The front line is composed of the heroes who are at the front. These are defensive heroes who are better at absorbing the damage with maximised defense and health attributes to ensure the team’s longevity in combat.

They can be recognized by the shield icon in the description.
Therefore, it is crucial for these heroes to develop as a priority weapon or equipment with defensive vocation such as

radar

chip

or armor
Backline
The backline is the heroes placed at the back. These are offensive or support heroes whose goal is to destroy enemies by inflicting maximum damage or by supporting the team.

They can be recognized by the flame or care icon in the description.
Therefore, it is crucial to develop weapons or equipment with offensive vocation as a priority, such as

the cannon

or chip.

Defensive gears
There are two types of equipment that can be used to improve your defense. However, they each have different specificities. These two types of equipment are vital for your team’s frontline but are also very important for the backline.
Radar
The Radar is an item that improves defense and energy damage reduction stats, as well as critical damage. It’s a must-have item against heroes who deal energy damage, such as Kimberly, Stetmann, DVA, and Tesla.
It’s an essential defensive item early in the game, as Kimberly, DVA, and Tesla are heroes available from the beginning or early in the game and are developed first by players.
Therefore, it’s one of the priority items to develop and upgrade.

Armor
Armor is an item that improves health and physical damage reduction stats, and also has a chance of critical damage. It’s an essential item against heroes who deal physical damage like Morrison, Swift, and Fiona.
It’s an essential defensive item later in the game. Heroes like Morrison, Swift, and Fiona arrive later in the game, along with their legendary weapons.
Therefore, it’s one of the items to be developed later.

Offensive or attack gears
Equipment that enhances your attack and significantly improves your heroes’ damage output. Essential for your backline, which is designed to deal significant damage.
Cannon or Railgun
The Cannon is the item that improves attack stats as well as critical hit chances. It’s a must-have item for all heroes who aim to deal high damage, like Kimberly, DVA, Tesla, Stetmann, Swift, Fiona, or Mason.
Therefore, it’s one of the items to prioritize developing and upgrading.

Hybrid gears
Equipment that improves your offense and defense. It’s important for your forward line to gain defensive bonuses, but also for your back line to improve your offense.
Chip
The chip is a hybrid item that both improves attack and reduces all types of damage, allowing you to improve your survivability against any type of hero. Therefore, it’s an important item for all the heroes on your team, whether defensive or offensive.
Therefore, it can be considered one of the priority items to develop and improve.

What are the counter bonuses on mythical weapons?
There are 3 types of heroes:

Tank

Aircraft

Missile
Each team is made up of different types of heroes who have a bonus or penalty against other types of teams. These are called “counter troops.” It’s a bit like a game of “rock, paper, scissors.”
You can view the bonuses or penalties in your garage via this menu.

- Tanks have 20% damage reduction against missiles
- Missiles have 20% damage reduction against aircraft
- Aircraft have 20% damage reduction against tanks
Therefore, the counter bonuses on Mythic weapons make your heroes more effective as counter units.
- The cannon has a 10% bonus against counters
- The chip has a 5% damage reduction bonus against counters
Team Types and Their Damage

Tank Teams
Tank-type heroes mainly deal energy damage, as the backline consists entirely of energy-based heroes. The best defence against tank teams is radar.
- Frontline: Murphy – Physical Damage
- Frontline: Williams – Physical Damage
- Backline: Kimberly – Energy Damage
- Backline: Marshall – Energy Damage
- Backline: Stetmann – Energy Damage

Aircraft Teams
Aircraft-type heroes offer a balance between energy and physical damage. Due to DVA, radar should be prioritised, but armour will also be needed to counter Morrison.
- Frontline: Carlie – Physical Damage
- Frontline: Lucius – Physical Damage
- Backline: DVA – Energy Damage
- Backline: Skyler – Energy Damage
- Backline: Morrison – Physical Damage

Missile Teams
Missile-type heroes are predominantly physical damage dealers. Armour is the best defence against missile teams, though radar is still required due to Tesla. Most missile heroes appear in the second half of the game and are particularly dangerous, as few will have enough armour to withstand their attacks.
Backline: Fiona – Physical Damage
Frontline: McGregor – Physical Damage
Frontline: Adam – Physical Damage
Backline: Tesla – Energy Damage
Backline: Swift – Physical Damage
Gear development
There is considerable discussion within the Last War community about this, and there is no single correct approach. However, certain trends are beginning to emerge.
Different development strategies
There are no strict rules on this topic, but some clear trends have emerged. Some players prioritise radar first, followed by cannons, while others take the opposite approach. It ultimately depends on your preference; whether you focus on maximising attack or balancing attack with survival in combat. Here are some examples of different strategies:
Offensive strategy
A balanced approach suitable for most situations, focusing on maximising damage by upgrading cannons on the backline first, then equipping everyone with radar, and finally adding chips.
Item Priority
- Cannon
- Chip
- Radar
- Armor
Very offensive strategy
A highly aggressive approach prioritising raw damage. Upgrade cannons first on the backline, then chips, and finally radar for reinforcement.
Item Priority
- Cannon
- Chip
- Radar
- Armour
Defensive strategy
A strategy aimed at PvP (Player versus Player), designed to neutralise heroes like Kimberly, DVA, and Tesla by reducing their damage output. Prioritise radar for all heroes first, then cannons on the backline, and finally chips.
Item Priority
- Radar
- Cannon
- Armour
- Chip
A Practical Example of a Strategy
Equipment upgrades are expensive and resources are limited, so it is advisable to focus on the essentials and gradually develop the rest over time.
Determine Your Key Team Hero
Each team has a key hero designed to make the difference, for example, Kimberly, DVA, or Tesla. These heroes are accessible early on and should receive all upgrade priority. They are backline damage dealers who, with weapon upgrades, gain high survivability and effectiveness.
Backline Key Hero Development Priority
We first prioritise upgrading your key backline hero. We develop the cannon to boost their damage output while also improving their vitality. The item upgrade priority is as follows:
- Cannon
- Radar (may be priority 3, depending on your preferences)
- Chip (may be priority 2, depending on your preferences)
- Armor
The other two backline heroes will take longer to reach their full potential, mainly due to limited resources, particularly skill medals or high-level special weapons. Therefore, they are considered secondary and will receive upgrades later. It is preferable to focus on improving their survivability, especially as some will provide support skills. Their item upgrade priority is:
- Radar (may be priority 2 depending on your preferences)
- Cannon (may be priority 1 depending on your preferences)
- Chip
- Armor
Frontline Development Priority
The frontline plays a crucial role in combat, tasked with ensuring your team’s survival by absorbing enemy damage. Therefore, it should be prioritised with defensive upgrades:
- Radar
- Armor
- Chip
- Cannon
Priority Order in This Example
We prioritise developing the key hero’s equipment alongside the frontline. After that, we focus on upgrading the equipment of the other heroes.
Thus, the order of development priority is:
- Key Hero
- Front line
- Others
Mistakes to Avoid
Caution: Development must be balanced. Essential items for each line must be upgraded methodically, without completely neglecting the others. Avoid creating gaps, such as maxing out one item while leaving the rest at level 0.
Once your priority item has reached 1- or 2-Star, you should begin upgrading secondary items to level 20, 30, or 40.
The same principle applies across heroes: Avoid having one hero with fully upgraded equipment while others are left with none.
This approach ensures steady development for both frontline and backline equipment.

Cost of improvements
Upgrades are very expensive and require resources such as gold, ore (blue triangles), ceramics, and legendary or mythical scrolls (the latter being particularly difficult to obtain).
Upgrading weapons becomes especially challenging when you are also researching level 10 troops or hero technologies.
